Dear Parents/Community Members,
Welcome to Whittemore-Prescott Area Schools. As your superintendent, I am very proud of the partnership the district has with parents as we work together to provide the best educational experience for your child/children. Our dedicated staff consists of bus drivers, cafeteria staff, secretarial, custodial, paraprofessionals, teachers and administrators. We recognize the importance of holding high expectations for ourselves and the students that are in our care. The staff continues to receive the most up to date professional development in an effort to deliver the most effective instruction possible. We offer support services for students that need additional help. The supports range from minimal to intensive in a small group setting or individual depending on need.
At the high school, we have expanded our course offerings to better prepare students for the next phase of their life whether it is college, the workforce, military or trade school. Extensive programs help students problem solve, work in a team environment and collaborate to solve real world problems. FFA students compete regionally and at the state level. Dual enrollment opportunities allow students to earn college credit at little or no cost to families. Partnerships with Kirtland Community College and Alpena Community College provide opportunities for students to earn an Associates degree while still in high school. I encourage students to get involved in the high school experience because they will only be in high school once.
We believe that small class sizes and attention to detail paired with research based instructional practices will not only prepare students for the next grade level, but prepare them to be contributing members of society.
If you are considering moving into the Whittemore-Prescott area or considering us as your school of choice, please feel free to contact the principal of the perspective school(s) or myself. We would be happy to share why WP is the district of choice for so many families.
Yours in Education,
Joseph J. Perrera, Ed.S.
